By staying at Hotel Isis, you get to be right inside downtown Zihuatanejo. This puts everything within walking distance and makes it feel as though the whole town has become your living room. The closest and most immediately sensory attraction is the Mercado Municipal, just a few blocks away. This place does not cater to tourists; this is where the locals shop for their groceries among stalls of fresh mangoes, avocados, handmade tortillas, and local crafts. Have breakfast here in one of its fondas inside "bolillo con relleno"(pork sandwich)-a local specialty.

In about ten minutes, you will find yourself at the fisherman’s path or Paseo del Pescador. There, in that charming waterfront promenade very early in the morning, beach markets are set up and one can watch fishermen bringing in their catch of the day. The pedestrian coastal path connects Playa Principal- good for walking and watching boats-to Playa Madera better swimming and body surfing). A walk along this coastal path at sunset is a must ritual shared by tourists as well as town folks.

For a slightly longer excursion, you can walk to the pier and take a water taxi to Playa Las Gatas. This is a protected cove with a reef breakwater, making it calm and perfect for snorkeling. The boat ride gives you different views of the bay that are equally beautiful. In the evenings, just next to Cancha Municipal or basketball court plaza on the beach side, there seem always some cultural events happening—dance shows perhaps—or simply families sitting around giving front row seats to actual Mexican social life.
